A day messing about on the water - canal trip with Maureen and Roger in the driving seat.
This is a modern, smart 35-foot 10-seater day boat on a stretch of water that Maureen knows well. There are locks to negotiate and a new perspective on the countryside, and indeed life, to contemplate. Maureen and Roger are both keen canal boaters and we probably have some more hidden away in the closet. You can help with the locks, walk on the towpath (tow the boat??), pour the wine, sunbathe, relax and enjoy yourself. Bacon brunch is included but please bring food and drink to share for the rest of the day – Sunday papers are also a good idea. The boat is ours till 5pm and we’ll probably look for a pub meal on the journey home. We will have to be at Penkridge at 8.30 am so that means leaving Shrewsbury at 8 am!! Be there or be square man!!
Weekend trip to Bruges and Blankenberge
This is a locally organised coach trip to a tried and tested format, travelling from local pick-up points early on Friday, via Dover and Calais to the Alpha Inn in Blankenberge, which serves enormous breakfasts. Blankenberge itself has a wide choice of great restaurants and is just 30 minutes away from the beautiful, charming city of Bruges, Venice of the North, which can be explored on foot, by horse drawn carriage or by canal boat. Apart from beautiful medieval buildings you can visit the lace quarter and the chocolate quarter and don’t forget that Belgium is famous for its beers!! On the return journey we will probably visit the atmospheric fish market in Ostend and, if time permits and if they’re open, a wine and beer hypermarket. The coach will arrive back in Shropshire late on Sunday evening. Please note that you can share a twin or three-bed room with other members but there will be a single room supplement if you prefer a room to yourself. The price includes coach travel to and from Blankenberge with a day trip to Bruges, and two nights bed and breakfast (loads of really good food by all accounts).
